1. What
is a UDAI?
A UDAI is the Unique Domain Authentication ID and applies only
to .nz domain names. It is a unique identifier issued at the time of registration
of a domain name under the New Zealand SRS registry.
To transfer a domain name from one registrar to another, the UDAI must
be supplied to the gaining registrar.
The UDAI can be obtained from the existing registrar of record. |
| |
2. How
do I get the UDAI for my .nz domain name?
Your existing .nz Registrar must provide the UDAI for your domain
name upon request. Contact your existing Registrar to obtain your UDAI.

3. What name servers
should I use when I transfer to RegisterDomains?
If you have your site hosted elsewhere and your domain name is
used for email or website hosting, do not change the existing name server
details. I.e. Do Not edit the nameservers using the domain management
tool, (note, when your domain is transfered to RegisterDomains - by default
all existing details stay as they were).
RegisterDomains will become the billing agent for your domain name, but
your hosting or email services will remain with your existing provider.
If your domain name is not used for email or website hosting, and you
just want your domain name to be parked at RegisterDomains, e.g. to benefit
from our lower registration/renewal fees, then you can use the domain
manager tool to update your nameservers to the default (listed). |
| |
4.
Can I transfer my domain name to another registrar and keep my current
email or webhost provider?
Yes, however, when you transfer your domain name to another registrar,
make sure they will allow you to retain current name server settings.

7. How long does
it take for my new domain name to be live ?
Once the Registry announces that your domain name has been registered
(or transferred, if applicable), which usually takes less than 1 hour
then it takes up to a further 24 hours before it is active.
Internet providers and Internet DNS root servers update their records
(DNS tables) to reflect domain changes. This is called propagation. |
| |
8. What is a DNS
Server?
A DNS (domain name server) is a computer that serves up domain names from
a database. It tells the web browser what IP address is allocated to a
domain name among other things related to that domain. |

| |
9. What is a 'URL'
?
The 'URL' stands for: Universal Resource Locator. The global address of
documents and other resources on the World Wide Web. The first part of
the address indicates what protocol to use, and the second part specifies
the IP address or the domain name where the resource is located. |
| |
10. What is an IP
address?
Every computer connected to the Internet is assigned a unique number known
as an Internet Protocol (IP) address. Since these numbers are usually
assigned in country-based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify
the country from which a computer is connecting to the Internet.
Also referred to as Internet protocol address. A unique number that identifies
a networked system so that it may communicate via Internet protocols.
It consists of four numbers separated by periods. Most often, each part
of the IP address is a number between 0 and 225; however, the first number
must be less than 224 and the last number cannot be 0. IP addresses are
logically divided into two parts: the network (similar to a telephone
area code), and the system on the network (similar to a phone number).
